Why Security System is Necessary in Business Place

We all want to see our loved and dear ones safe. To keep them safe, we usually take many measures. Possibly we build a safe zone around them so that our family members are safe and protected. Why we do so in our house only? We all have a life outside a house. In our daily schedule, we go to office and meet different people. The place where we spend more time is also a second house, we should even make the safety of that place also secured. Security system is also important in a business place due to many reasons piling up a lot of the important things.

Reasons for having security system

To maintain the confidentiality of a company, its products, services and many other things security system is necessary.

The biggest question arises in the mind of the people, Is every employee trust-worthy? Having these doubts is not a big issue, it generally arises when a person is at good position and has made the maximum use of his efforts in establishing a business firm.

Usually it is also noticed that the employee also steals the confidential information of the company and shares with other competitors. For this security system must be there so that these mishappening must be prevented.

Decrease in the rate of crimes

As by the installation of CCTV, it is noticed that the rate of crimes has decreased. Now even the new sort of CCTV are installed in which one can be caught in darkness too. Not a single person can skip from the eyes of the person keeping a check on the same. Any unauthorized person cannot enter from the same. If this happens, the security alarms are siren by which the things are sorted and the culprit is caught.

When it is known to one that they are under surveillance, usually one becomes cautious and doesn’t commit any criminal activity. The Pros and Cons of CCTV and why we recommend you have it

If Only Everyone Had CCTV Cameras

CCTV Cameras have saved countless lives and prevented more crimes than you can shake a stick at – and that’s an understatement.

While that might be the case, a lot of people regard them as “evil” or “malicious,” most likely thanks to conspirers and Hollywood drama… nobody likes the idea of a surveillance state, after all!

We’ve heard people say they don’t want them because they make the place seem “too prisony” or that the cameras themselves were “a bit ugly.”

Okay, we see your point – you just spent a pretty penny on your new place and you like the way it looks, fair enough.

But, consider that CCTV only needs to prevent a crime at your home or office once to be worth its money. How much money a customer spends is a different matter – if you walk by a home that has CCTV and you think “urgh, that thing looks like a bird sh*t all down the side of that building”… but no. Instead, think of it as, “urgh, those people really cheaped on on their CCTV.”

Honestly, there are plenty of cameras available that can perfectly blend into and contribute to their environment. Just ask us to show you the good stuff 😉

With all of that being said, let’s consider the Watermaid Beehive arson that took place in February, and how CCTV was able to record footage of the three offenders for the police to further their enquiries.

The hives had been attacked before, in September of last year, following which the Romer family had CCTV installed to help ID the culprits, should they strike again.

During the second attack, in February of this year, the CCTV cameras installed at the family firm were able to capture footage of the offenders in action. However, given their distance from the cameras and the low light conditions, gaining a positive ID straight away has proved to be an issue.

With that, Alarm Doctor was tasked with performing a CCTV upgrade across the Watermaid exterior, improving the definition in the cameras, increasing their light sensitivity, depth of field and clarity, as well as re-adjusting their fixtures to cater to a larger field of view.

It isn’t clear as to whether the culprits knew they were being recorded, but they will now, considering their story went to the press around the same time. Click here to read the Daily Telegraph’s article: Aussie flag-wearing youths set fire to 82-year-old’s precious bee hives

If you read the story, you’ll see some of the CCTV footage that was captured, and realise that people involved shielded their faces in every shot and you might think, “ppft, what’s the point in having CCTV if CCTV doesn’t do what the blooming heck CCTV is supposed to do!?”

So, let’s go over the Pros and Cons of HAVING CCTV INSTALLED:

1 Capture criminal activity on camera 1 Cheaper options can detract from the aesthetics of the building
2 Deters Criminal activity from taking place 2 Equipment with design and high-grade features can be expensive
3 Protects your home or offices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 3 Installations can be tricky for the untrained.
4 Make money on YouTube when criminals fail
5 Increase your chances of a successful insurance claim after a burglary
6 Increase the Police’s chances of catching the burglar
7 Immediate action when coupled with Back-to-Base monitoring and Guard Response

That’s 7:3 in the Pro:Con ratio… not too shabby!

Now, let’s take a gander at;

The Pros and Cons of HAVING NO CCTV

1 Your home or office looks really pretty. 1 Your home or office looks like a target.
2 Nobody will be able to hack in and spy on you. 2 You won’t capture any evidence of crimes taking place
3 Your neighbours don’t complain about you being “nosey” 3 You can’t be “nosey”
4 One less thing to insure, maintain and check. 4 Your insurance might not cover your losses if you get burgled.
5 More time to watch videos on YouTube 5 You can’t watch your own criminal fail vidoes
6 The police will be at your property for less time after an incident 6 The police will have less evidence to go on, giving the criminals a better chance.

Six for six, well the Pros did better than we expected there, but hey, the ratio is way worse – 6:6 for not installing CCTV and 7:3 for installing CCTV – The figures speak for themselves.

Power Outage Protection for NBN™ Customers in Sydney

Professional NBN™ Connection Battery Replacement and Power Supply Services

If you’re joining the millions of Australians who’ve already moved from their landline services to the new National Broadband Network™ initiative, then you’ll know just how beneficial the data alternative to landline usage can be.

With the National Broadband Network aiming to increase internet connectivity speeds, reduce both national and international telephone rates and provide a more secure connection to its users, it’s no wonder that the service has become so popular.

When switching to the National Broadband Network™, it is likely that your home or office security system will have been synced to the NBN™. This, in turn, means that all of your alarm’s communications with its monitoring station, the police, your associated mobile applications or any other third party software will now be transmitted through your NBN™ system.

Running your alarms and security systems through the National Broadband Network™ is a suitable approach to cost-effective security, but the NBN™ system is not the most appropriate for high-grade security requirements. If you’re looking for the very best in both private and commercial security systems, speak to us today on 1300 23 00 23 or click here to contact us online.

Looking After Your National Broadband Network So It Can Look After You

Your National Broadband Network™ Connection box will have been installed with a high-output, back-up battery pack. This battery is in place to ensure that your NBN™ Connection box continues to relay information in the event of a power cut at the given property.

Power outages can be caused by a range of things, from electrical storms and blown fuses to tampering and potential intrusion.

It’s important, therefore, that you keep an eye on your NBN™ system’s back-up batteries, making sure to have them regularly serviced and/or replaced.

NBN™ Back-Up Battery Wear and Tear

Like all alarm and security system back-up batteries, your National Broadband Network™ Connection box’s back-up battery is designed for high-output. But it also shares in the fact that your system’s back-up battery is in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It is designed to be in constant operation, being charged when connected to the mains supply and being discharged throughout the day. Lithium Ion batteries are intended to handle large amounts of power, but do not hold their charge for extended periods of time, especially when under continuous load.

Back-up batteries therefore tend to have a life expectancy of around 2 years, but could be significantly more or less depending on additional usage and load requirements throughout their life cycles.

Servicing Your NBN™ Back-up Batteries

Most alarm and security experts, along with leading home and office contents insurers will recommend that you have your security systems serviced at least once a year for commercial clients, and once every two years for private customers.

This isn’t to say that your systems will break within that time, but it reduces that chances of a fault taking place in the event of a potential crime in the future.

Added to that, failing to have your alarm and NBN™ System’s back-up batteries serviced or replaced on a regular basis can result in your insurance claims being rejected, depending on the types of insurance you’ve taken out and their respective policy terms and conditions.

If you’re not sure whether your alarm system is important to your home or office insurance policy, we recommend that you get in touch with your provider.

We Can Help

Alarm Doctor is equipped to handle any and all types of alarm and security system repairs, installations, upgrades and maintenance, including those associated with your NBN™ Connection Box.

The “Did You Knows” of Burglary in New South Wales | Crime in Australia

What is “burglary,” exactly?

We all have a general idea of what “burglary” is, but we’re starting off our “did you knows” with a bang; did you know that the legal definition for “burglary” varies from state to state?

According to a publication released by the Australian Institute of Criminology (click here to view it), the resounding definition across Australia, however, is “…any offence involving unlawfully entering a house or other building to steal property, usually at night; the statutory offence of entering a building as a trespasser (or without consent of the owner) with the intent to steal anything in the building or (depending on the jurisdiction to commit some other offence in the building) (Butt 2004: 58).

It’s interesting to note that a “burglar” doesn’t necessarily have to steal anything from your property for the crime to be classified as a “burglary!”

How do burglars know which properties to target?

Did you know that the majority of burglaries that take place are unplanned?

There are a wide variety of characteristics a particular property could display that would trigger a burglar’s instinct to investigate, but some key findings from a study carried out for AIC’s DUMA (Drug Use Monitoring in Australia) program, where detainees suspected of burglary, breaking and entering, robberies and trespassing were interviewed and questioned, were as follows:

  • 2% of detainees reported that they typically entered the premises through unlocked doors or windows. The remaining 33.8% reported gaining entry by means of breaking a door or window.
  • Of the detainees interviewed, the following statistics reflect what was taken into consideration when targeting a property;
    • 29% reported that valuable items had been left in view;
    • 4% reported that they knew the area well;
    • 1% reported previous success in the area and;
    • 8% reporting that front-door keys were carelessly hidden.

The consequences of being burgled:

Aside from the fact that you’d probably have had a few things stolen from your home or offices, there are a number of other negative effects that burglaries can and do have on people, as described below by Adam Tomison, Director General at WA Department of the Attorney General:

The social costs of the intrusion into private homes can significantly impact the psychological health, wellbeing and perceived safety of victims and the wider community.

Statistics indicate that individuals are more likely to be the victim of theft or burglary within their homes than any other type of crime.

Break and enter crimes are one of the most common and far reaching forms of criminality in Australia.

In approximately 20 percent of burglary cases, the psychological trauma experienced is extensive due to the violation of, and intrusion into, the victim’s private territory, particularly for women who reside alone.

Victims report a new sense of vulnerability as the burglary violates their perception of personal security.

In addition, significant distress can result from the loss of sentimental and irreplaceable items.”

In and out.

Did you know that, statistically, Indigenous people are more likely to break in during evening hours, whilst non-Indigenous people tend to break and enter during daylight hours?

How long would you assume a burglar takes to go through your things while you’re not home? Of the detainees the study interviewed;

  • 23% reported being inside the property for less than 5 minutes;
  • 46% reported being inside for 5-15 minutes;
  • 14% reported being inside for 15-30 minutes and;
  • 3% reported being inside for more than 30 minutes.

What happens to your stuff?

Did you know that 12.3% of burglaries don’t involve stealing anything?

  • 1% of potential burglars would sell or swap your things with a drug dealer;
  • 3% would exchange or sell it to friends and family;
  • 3% would sell or swap your things with a stranger and;
  • 3% would simply keep your belongings for themselves.

What’s the best way to deter a burglar?

While we are an alarm installation, repair and maintenance company, we do have to admit that there is one thing that trumps even the most advanced of home and commercial alarm systems…

Did you know that dogs are statistically more likely to prevent burglaries than any other reasonable form of security?

Participants of the same study were asked to indicate what aspects of a property made it less attractive to burgle, some of the key findings of which revealed that;

  • 4% were deterred most by the presence of a dog (irrespective of size);
  • 1% were put off by working alarm systems;
  • 8% didn’t want to approach properties with motion-sensitive lights;
  • 3% wouldn’t attempt a burglary if lights were on inside;
  • 19% would retreat at the sight of grilled or barred windows and doors;
  • 14% wouldn’t burgle properties in areas they didn’t know well;
  • 14% were less interested in properties that were clearly visible from the road and;
  • 3% were put off by the presence of gates to the property.

Did you know that you may be eligible for a discount on your property’s insurance premiums by having a working alarm system installed?

As recommended by the same AIC paper, and as much as we would love to train up the most adorable and highly effective guard dogs, fully functional alarm systems remain one of the greatest deterrents to potential burglars, but note the caveat!:

Another significant deterrent was the presence of home alarms; however, there was a caveat. Information indicates that this is effective only when home alarm systems are turned on. The sample of active burglars were aware of fake alarm systems, fake security systems and fake cameras, none of which deterred them. Rather, they presented a further indication of a property with minimal security. Insurance companies also acknowledge the increase in deterrence that active alarm systems provide, offering discounted premiums to those who have them installed.

Effective security measures were described as switched on alarms, security screens, roller shutters and dogs. Therefore, the more secure a property, the harder it is to break in and the longer it takes to get in deters active burglars from pursuing the break and enter of particular premises. This may provide an incentive for government funding and home builders to include security measures when building new houses; that are, ‘secured by design’.”

If you know that your alarm system doesn’t work properly, is out-dated or is simply set-up as a fake, in the hopes of deterring burglars, then it might be time to consider an upgrade.

Alarm Doctor has been serving New South Wales homes and businesses for close to two decades, providing flawless workmanship over our installations and repairs and coupling those high standards with a genuine dedication to customer satisfaction.

How to Prevent Potential Burglaries and Discourage Thieves | Crime Australia

A Few Tips on How to Deter Thieves and Prevent Potential Burglaries from Alarm Doctor

No matter the time of year, people will always have a reason to leave their property, whether it’s your office or your home; whether you’re leaving the country or simply closing up for the weekend. Burglars and professional thieves have an eye for the little things – the details that say you’re not there… that say, “nobody’s been here for a while.”

Properties that show obvious signs of neglect make for prime targets to potential burglars and thieves because they know there is less risk of them being caught. As such, we’ve put together a simple list of the things you can do to make sure your house or offices seem a little less empty when you’re away:

  • Starting with the obvious, generally speaking you want to make your home or offices look occupied and you want to make it difficult for any potential burglars to get in.
  • When you go out, leave a few lights on. This might sound like a waste of energy and an extra expense, especially if you’re going to be away for a while, but there are lots of ways you can manage your lighting; for example, you can connect automatic timers to the sockets, which will turn the lights on and off for you and, you can even download apps that help you control your lights over the internet. Have a search online for “home control” apps if you’re interested.
  • Make sure that you lock all outside doors and windows before going to bed, or leaving the building, even if it’s not for a very long time.
  • Arrange with the post office to hold your mail or ask your neighbour to swing by every now and again so that piles of letters, flyers and bills stack up while you’re away. Lots of mail is a clear sign that nobody’s home.
  • Remember that sliding doors are likely to be the first entry points burglars will try because their latches are usually simple. Investing in a more secure latch or lock system is highly recommended.
  • If you can see that the locks on your doors and windows are a little worse for wear, replace them. For a just a few dollars you’ll be adding a significant layer of security to your home – additionally, “pushbutton” locks on doorknobs are very easy for burglars to open. Installing deadbolts instead is sure to save you a world of trouble.
  • If you’re going to be away for a while, arrange to have someone mow your lawn and prune your front yard – overgrown gardens are also a good sign that the property is [temporarily] abandoned.
  • If you have a garage, make sure the door is closed properly and locked at each respective latch.

How NOT to Tempt a Thief:

These tips might sound obvious, but from time to time, we simply forget about them and then before we know it, we realise that we made a mistake. It’s best to put these things at the front of your mind, especially just before you prepare for bed, leave the office or at least a day before you set off on a journey:

  • Don’t leave things like lawn mowers, barbecues and bicycles out in the open… even if they’re chained up. Just the fact that they’re there and NOT MOVING for a long time is a signal to burglars that nobody’s home.
  • Never leave notes on your door that signal you’re not there – for example, “Popped next door, back in 10” or “Dear Mailman, please leave today’s post with number 22 as I’m not in until this evening.”
  • Use blinds or curtains for ground level and basement windows. Blinds are better as you can tilt them to 50%, making them seem neither closed nor open, whereas curtains are going to need to be left either open or closed… again, a signal to any potential thieves.
  • Make sure you lock your garage doors and garden sheds right after use. It’s common that the keys our in our pockets as we’re carrying things back and forth, and then when we’re back in the house, the old “it’s just too far away to go now, I’ll do it later” kicks in. Lock them right away.

Don’t Skimp Out on Locks:

  • Remember that quality speaks for itself when it comes to safeguarding your property, meaning that the most impressive-looking lock, costing 10 bucks is NOT the right choice over an uglier lock that costs $50. Also take into consideration, however, that no lock, no matter how good it is, can be 100% effective, the least of which are “key-in deadbolt locks.”
  • If you ever lose your keys, or they’re stolen, change your locks IMMEDIATELY and the same goes for moving into a new property – this is generally very overlooked in society, with estate agents and landlords simply handing over the keys and people moving in no questions asked. There is always the possibility that in the history of those locks, an uninvited party could have made copies of the keys that you don’t know about.

Cover Your Front:

  • By all of your main entrances, to the building or at the very least, the property itself, installing motion-sensitive outdoor lighting is a must.
  • Make sure that all of your outside doors’ hinges are on the INSIDE of the property – having the hinges on the outside makes for an easy breaking, with nothing but a screwdriver.
  • Keep trees and shrubs properly pruned to ensure a good line of sight for you and less potential hiding spots for intruders.

A Simple Window Lock:

  • Most people will have access to a drill, or someone that does and, with that, it’s a good thing to note that if your windows don’t have locks, you can always make a pretty good one yourself. All you need to do is drill a small hole through the inside frame and half-way through the outside frame, horizontally if the window opens upwards, vertically if the window slides to the side or in either direction if the window opens outwards, making sure to make the hole as close to the opening edge as possible. Simply pop a nail or screw into that hole and the window will be “pinned” shut.

Alarm Systems:

  • A professional-grade alarm system, coupled with expert installation, is one of the most effective safeguards against burglaries available in Australia. Thankfully, Alarm Doctor stocks one of the widest selections of the leading brands and latest models that the country has to offer and we go on to provide our clients, whether commercial or private, with the finest installation, maintenance, upgrade and repair services.
  • If you don’t have an alarm system in your property, or you’re not happy with the way your current system is performing, get in touch with Alarm Doctor today and have one of our technicians pay you’re a visit. We’ll be in and out in a blink.
  • If you have an alarm system set up, use it! So many people simply forget or choose not to activate their alarm systems but, simply put, failing to activate your alarm not only jeopardises the safety of your property, but can also nullify any claims you make to your insurer in the event of a successful breaki-in.

Other Things You Can Do to Decrease the Chance of a Break-in:

  • Don’t leave your keys in “clever” hiding places, anywhere near your property. Burglars and thieves who’ve operated for long enough have seen every trick in the book and will know where you hid them, simple as that.
  • Install fake (or real) CCTV cameras
  • Adding a “Beware of the Dog” sign can be a helpful tool.
  • If you have the time and energy, it can be useful to have some of your more valuable possessions engraved with a personal identity number, such as your Driver’s License number, making it harder for thieves to sell on and easier for the police to recover.

If You Come Back to Find a Break-In Has Occured:

If you’re unfortunate enough to come home after a long break, or simply returning to the office on a Monday morning, only to find broken glass, or the door ajar… there are a few things we recommend you do:

  • DON’T GO INSIDE! For all you know, the burglar or thief could still be inside. We’re not saying “don’t be a hero,” but just know that if anything goes south in there, you could be liable (as crazy as that sounds.)
  • Call the Police and tell them what you’ve found.
  • Don’t touch anything – just wait for the police to arrive. If you accidentally move something or tread anywhere near the premises, you could jeopardise the evidence you need to catch the culprits.
  • Make a note of any suspicious people or vehicles in the area – if you can, take their registration numbers or write down what they look like.

Alarm Doctor is here to help Sydney Siders to stay protected against burglars and thieves. If you ever need professional support for your home or office’s security, don’t forget that we’re qualified, licensed and fully insured to provide everything you need, with surgical precision.

Funny Stories and Jokes About Thieves and Robbers | Crime Australia

Let’s Have a Laugh at Their Expense… For Once

It’s surprisingly difficult these days to find a good joke about robbers and thieves… but perhaps the idea of being burgled or robbed is just so off-putting that nobody every thinks to turn the situation from a real negative to a potential positive.

We don’t blame them.

With that being said however, thankfully there are some witty folks out there who’d like nothing more than to poke fun at some of the most intrusive people in our society and here are our top picks of some of the best ones.

Please note that we have re-written jokes and stories that may previously have been badly worded, but otherwise we have done our best to keep them as original as possible. Unfortunately, our sources didn’t credit the original authors, so we can’t tell you who came up with these beauties. Nonetheless, here they are for you to enjoy!

JOKE #1:

Freddy had his credit card stolen late last year. He decided not to report it stolen because the thief was spending less every month than his wife did.

JOKE #2:

A thief broke into a medium-sized suburban home, looking for anything he could find to throw into his bag and flog. He went from closet to closet and room to room before eventually finding the main bedroom. There, he immediately rushed to the where he thought the jewels were kept. Then, from nowhere, a voice said quietly:

“Jesus is watching you.”

The burglar stopped, shocked at what he’d just heard. Following a moment’s silence as he listened, he continued, thinking nothing of it.

“Jesus is watching you.” The voice said again, this time louder.

The thief whipped around, eyes darting all over the room.

“Oh, thank the heavens… it’s just a parrot!” The thief sighed in relief. “What’s your name?”

“Lizzie.” Replied the parrot.

Shaking his head, the thief continued his search, throwing Rolexes and pearl earrings into his backpack;

“Well, that’s a stupid name – who’d call a parrot Lizzie?”

“The same idiot who called their Rottweiler Jesus.”

JOKE #3:

Thief #1: “Oh crap! The police are here! Quick, jump out the window!”

Thief #2: “What!? We can’t, we’re on the 13th Floor!”

Thief #1: “Hurry up, man! Now’s not the time for superstitions!”

Story #1:

Police have arrested a man charged for a series of raids in which he allegedly disguised himself as large parcels and had himself posted to businesses across the country.

The 39-year-old male worked with an accomplice, who would deliver him as “the parcel” to unsuspecting companies just as their business days came to an end, leaving the Trojan Horse of a package unattended in their offices over night.

Police said that he would then slip out of the package, make his rounds stealing whatever he could, and then seal himself and the stolen goods back into another box, pre-labelled with his home address.

The ploy fell through however, after the man’s accomplice (the delivery driver) decided to turn both himself and his partner into the police due to “professional disagreements.”

Story #2:

Police busted a 19-year-old male after he’d managed to break into an unsuspecting woman’s home while she was away on a week-long holiday.

Investigators presume that the young man gained entry through the woman’s unlocked bedroom window, before swooping inside and lifting three pieces of diamond jewellery worth approximately $5,500 AUD.

The police were alerted to a potential break-in as soon as the women returned home, after finding that her window, her jewellery boxes and, strangely enough, an unknown Facebook account were all left open for her to see.

On closer inspection, the person that had signed in was a mutual friend of the victim and one of her colleagues, whom it turned out was also involved in the burglary; working in cahoots with the thief to plan the best approach to take.

The Facebook sign-in came as a result of the young man not knowing where to look for the jewels, and so logged on to ask his accomplice for more information via Facebook Messenger, considering she’d been in the victim’s house as a friend only a few weeks earlier.

Joke #4:

Warning: this joke contains adult humour that some readers may find disturbing..

Two blondes decide to change their lives and rob a bank together. The first blonde, called Chelsea, thinks over and plans the entire robbery, going over every aspect with her associate, the second blonde; Ruby.

Happy with their plan, the next day they set off and the robbery begins.

Chelsea drives quietly up to the bank’s entrance, stops the car and confirms with Ruby, “Are you 100% sure that you understand the plan? You need to be in and out of the bank in less than three minutes, with all the cash. Please say you understand?”

“I understand – I got this,” repliedRuby.

Ruby gets out the car and goes in the bank while Chelseastays behind in the getaway car. One minute passes.

Two minutes pass.

Seven minutes pass, and now Chelsea is really stressing out.

Finally, the bank doors burst open! And out comes Ruby.

She’s wrapped rope around the bank’s biggest safe and is dragging it with every ounce of strength to the car. She manages to get it to the trunk before the bank’s doors burst open again.

The bank’s security guard, red in the face, comes hurtling out with his pants around his ankles, and gun at the ready.

Ruby finishes loading the safe and jumps in before the two ladies blister off into the sunset.

“You are such a blonde! You said you understood the plan!” Chelsea shouted angrily.

“I did! I did exactly what you told me to do!” Replied Ruby.

“No, you moron,” snapped Chelsea. “I said tie up the GUARD and blow the SAFE!”
We hope you’re enjoying your week and remember, if you don’t want to become the subject of one of these jokes, your best bet is to ensure that your home, offices or place of business is properly protected, whether you’ll be sleeping there or not.

What Aspects of My Alarm Might Need Attention?

Unfortunately, as strong, rugged and durable as most modern-day alarms are, they are still prone to a number of small faults as they get older. In most cases, if your alarm is very new, servicing is quick and simple and you’ll get your service certificate in a jiffy. However, if your alarm system is a little older, then it could be suffering from any of the below. If that is the case, you will need to have your system serviced ASAP:

  1. Loose Wiring or Faulty Connections
    1. During the installation process, it is possible that your original installation team may have wired the system poorly and, over the years, thanks to a mixture of dust, humidity, wind, other movement and Murphy’s law, your alarm system’s wiring may have been affected and therefore need a quick fix.
  2. Dust Clogs
    1. While this may not affect you alarm system’s keypad, dust can cause false alarms and a range of issues for motion sensors, heat-sensitive cameras and other detection equipment. It’s imperative that these sensitive pieces of equipment be properly and professionally serviced regularly.
  3. Back-Up Battery
    1. Every alarm system these days is equipped with a high-output back-up battery. The battery is designed to keep your system running in the event of a power cut, whether accidental, malicious or otherwise. In most cases, back-up batteries can keep the system running for eight hours with no external power… but, due to their high-output, back-up batteries need to be checked regularly and replaced at least once every few years (depending on the make and model).
    2. If your back-up battery is undercharged, weak or faulty and the power to your home or office is cut, your alarm will not function and you will not be protected. This, in turn, means that if you are burgled, your insurance company may not be obliged to pay out for whatever was stolen.
  4. Water Damage
    1. This might seem an unlikely culprit, but you’d be surprised at just how much condensation (water droplets) builds up in and around your alarm system’s (and its motion sensors, cameras, etc.) plastic housing. Thankfully, they are designed to withstand a certain amount of wear and tear, including the average levels of humidity in a home or office. However, there are often times where humidity can build up to higher levels and, as such, your alarm system may begin to take on small amounts of water.
    2. In minute volumes, water poses no threat to your system, but over time and in larger quantities, the circuitry of the system becomes susceptible to shorts or faulting over certain connects.
    3. Additionally, when water and dust come together, the mix can have a critical effect on the internals of your system and it’s auxiliary parts.
  5. Outdated or Faulty Auxiliaries
    1. If your system is running motion sensors, CCTV cameras, infrared detectors or any other auxiliaries, it’s essential that those devices are up-to-date and capable of withstanding any attempts to disarm them and/or your entire alarm system. Alarm Doctor’s technicians are always on top of the industry’s latest tech, as well as being aware of the practices that “professional” thieves and burglars apply to gain entry to property. As such, if you think that any aspect of your alarm system may need tweaking, we’re here to help.

Had The Same System For A While?

Is your building’s alarm system as old as the building is – or maybe it’s been there so long that its built up several layers of paint as each new tenant’s decided to redecorate? Unfortunately, the saying, “don’t fix what isn’t broken” doesn’t quite fit the situation here.

Older alarm systems are statistically less likely to offer you, your family and your assets the same levels of protection as they did when they were new. This happens for a number of reasons, but the most pressing is the fact that alarm “hacks” are developed on the black market and the darker side of the web, and made available to wannabe burglars and thieves.
The best way to avoid having your system overwhelmed by the latest hacks and criminal hints and tips, is simply to upgrade your alarm to a newer model.
Newer alarms are specifically designed to be protected against the same tricks that burglars and thieves have used on older models in the past and, in most cases, are equipped with software that can be upgraded rather than having to replace the entire unit later on.

Alarm Doctor stocks all of the latest alarm systems, back-up batteries, motion sensors, CCTV cameras and a wide range of other add-ons, so if you’re looking to upgrade your system, look no further.

Alarm Doctor’s technicians always arrive fully equipped to tackle 99% of alarm installations, upgrades and services on the spot; minimising the need for return visits reduces costs to our customers and saves both you and our technicians heaps of time.

No matter which alarm you have, what auxiliaries you’d like to add or what the system is protecting, rest assured that Alarm Doctor is fully qualified and insured under public liability to ensure the most professional services each and every time.

We will always leave your property in the same, if not better condition than it was when we arrived. That means no holes where there shouldn’t be, no flecks of paint on your new carpets, no dust on your windows, mirrors and TV screens and absolutely no loose, hanging wires anywhere! Our technicians are trained to be precise, clean and efficient in their work.
